Time required to set up a company in Hong Kong
The time frames stated below are based on our experience therefore technically it may be possible for certain tasks to be performed more quickly but we thought it more useful to detail the norm.

A Limited Liability Company

• The quickest option is buy a "shelf" company - a company which has already been set up and is just waiting to be activated. The time required: 1 day.
  This assumes that the name of the company is acceptable as a "Change of Name" procedure would require 14 days.
• Setting up a company from scratch; the time required 6 working days.
• Activation (the process of appointing the first directors, appointing the Company Secretary and alloting any of the shares) can be concluded as soon as the company has been incorporated however when any of the persons involved in the activation process are resident outside Hong Kong further time would be required.

A Sole Proprietorship

• The time required: 1 day.

A Partnership

• Time required: 1 day.

Registering an Overseas Company in Hong Kong

• Time required: 3 weeks because the Hong Kong Companies Registry requires time to examine the Overseas Companies constitution; the Memorandum and Articles of Association or equivelant document.

A Representative Office

• Time required: 1 day.
